This past week I was having a conversation with a friend from Texas whose son played at UT before transferring and spent several years in the minors. One of his son's teammates was PO'ed he was batting seventh and playing left as a freshman. It ate away at him so much he gave up baseball after one year. Travel conditions in D1 (quality of hotels, use of air travel) far exceed conditions in the minor leagues into Double-A at least. Even Triple-A before it starts becoming similar again.
