Altuve

Painful to watch. I hope he can work through it this off season. I’m sure having media and fans giving him a hard time for cheating isn’t going to help.

I don’t it like the cheating. It makes me angry with the Astros as an organization. That being said, I don’t like to see players suffer.

My sense is that Altuve truly is a good guy and knows he crossed the line in those years.  Guilt. The subconscious mind is a powerful thing.   

Knoblauch is the last one I remember well. Yips are brutal

Chuck Knoblauch comes to mind first for me.   Altuve probably is not getting bad press because he is a former MVP, well liked, and it's like picking on somebody's little brother.

I almost posted the same thing.

It looks to me like Altuve is intentionally throwing the ball in the dirt to 1st.  I could be wrong but I saw him do it a couple nights ago and again tonight.  They are easy picks for the 1B.  This is an interesting approach to dealing with the yips in the middle of a big series.

Ozzie smith would sometimes do that too on a deep ball into the hole. He was a great fielder but his arm was more like average or a bit below and sometimes on deep throws he would intentionally bounce it 15-20 feet in front of first so that the 1b gets an easy routine bounce.

Astro turf helped with that though, might not want to do that on your average HS field

I remember the Dodgers Steve Sax had similar issues for a stretch

It looked to me like he was thinking and trying to guide the ball, rather than just letting it go, and as a result spiked it.  One hopping the ball from 50 feet away doesn't make much sense and Yuli got tied up on one of those throws and barely held on to it.
