It depends on how many guys I get. In years past I have had enough to run 2 games so I had older guys play against each other and younger guys play against my guys. In years where I have not had that participation rate I have used two different ways to play. 1) Traditional...Alumni vs. Our guys 2) Mix...I have mixed the Alumni into our guys and made two teams. When I have done this I carry a rule that both pitchers have to be the same. Either both current or both Alumni. This has proved to be very fun. It is great to see father and son playing side by side. Lastly I also do a home run derby. It is amazing the extra revenue we get because these guys still think they can hit it out and yes some of them still can.
I've been trying to set up an alumni game for this year, but our AD has been balking because of insurance reasons. I was wondering someone might share what they do for insurance at the alumni game?
Is any one nervous to play the alumni vs the varsity guys because of one of the varsity guys getting hurt ?? I was thinking about having an alumni game but in case a varsity guy got hurt right before my season started I would pretty much get fired.
We play games from the start of October every Saturday up until the season starts. I am no more nervous getting a kid hurt in one of those games as I do during a Alumni game.
