JT....you won't be anymore out of place in New Jersey...than our Pennsylvania 2nd place team will be in Moline, Illinois where THEY have to go! By the way....after watching Nor-Gwynn play a few games this weekend..if you run into them...watch out for #3 (Folgia??)...he is a one-man wrecking crew...all the tools!
PAbbmom...yes, pitches plays center and a switch hitting speedster! One man demolition crew! Wink. I think he was named tournament MVP. Not a huge kid in stature...but HUGE in making his presence known! We've seen Nor-gwyn quite a bit the past few weeks. First met them in the Region 2 tournament...most recently at the state tournament. In Region 2 he pitched vs. Boyertown (you know THAT team!)....struck out 17 of them! His hitting is phenomenal too!
I'm not sure why the first place NJ team didn't stay there for the tournament. In PA....the top two teams go....I was told because PA (and I'm guessing NJ is in a similar situation ) has so many more legion teams than the other states...so the American Legion deemed that two PA teams should qualify. In PA we were told two different ways of determining which team heads to which regional. First we were told that of the two top qualifying teams for regionals...the easternmost one would head to Jersey, the westernmost to Illinois (which is how it worked out). Secondly, we were told that the American Legion would determine which team was the most cost-effective (in terms of transportation) to send to each each regional. West Lawn and Nor-gwyn both wound up coming from the same district...so they are fairly close geographically to each other....so I'm guessing they just used the first method in determining. I would think NJ has a similar set-up.
