Cmom,
of course you've followed the recruiting timeline & your son has already contacted dozens of schools of interest during the past year via mail/email, filled out questionairs etc -

while it's true that "high profile" players get on the lists early - it basicly comes down to

they have to know who you are to write or recruit you

if he has not done that yet, get started yesterdaySmile

Catcher Mom-
The amount of letters received is not always an indication of who will be there when signing day comes. I realize that it is a numbers game and more now will lead to more opportunities later.

My 06 pitcher received numerous letters from several top baseball schools through out his junior year. In one particular case, the coach sent us at least one piece of mail per week sometimes two. They called this spring and we have had numerous contacts and conversations since. Then all of a sudden they just stopped. We could not get any return calls. We have received nothing further in the mail. We never really discovered why.

We have made 1 official visit to another school and numerous unofficial visits. One more official visit is scheduled the first weekend in October. As late as last week we were contacted by a school from one of the power baseball conferences from out of the blue. They saw my son play in at a showcase in mid August in Texas and now are in the process of scheduling a visit.

A year ago I was certain that we were very much wanted by the school that had a very aggressive recruiting process. Things change! Their needs change. Your list of schools will change. This is a fluid process and it is never done until a NLI is signed. In many cases you don't know where you stand until it gets down to crunch time.
