I wonder if he is getting this kind of opportunity because he is baseball royalty? I am sure lots of other guys that don't get to the bigs as a player are asked to stay on a la Crash Davis taking the opening in Visalia but not many start in Fenway I would not think.
Either way good for him - if he makes it as a coach he's had a pretty good life.
