Do parents quietly root for other players who are ahead of their son on the depth chart to flop and screw up so their kid gets the opportunity he might not otherwise get if all goes well?
I rooted for them as part of the team that my young 'un could learn from! Then, when son was the "head honcho", I taught him to pass it on! He took the younger guys under wing & gave them everything that was bestowed on him. including an attitude of gratitude. That's baseball.
No--bad ju ju. If the kid was better he deserves to play. Also want my kid on a competative team. He splits time on his summer team--because the other kid is a great 3B to and it is nice to have him there when my boy pitches!
My son starts so I only hope he holds down his position for the season with older players on the bench. So far his position is secure. I have to admit there is one kid I hope fails as long as it doesn't hurt the team. I've felt all along a certain kid on the bench deserves to play over this kid and would help the team more.
