Will someone in Chicago please do something about the kinds of people that are coaching girls high school basketball.

Dear Coach:

Ever hear of holding the ball against a hapless opponent? Exactly what lesson did your girls learn by burying a team/program which (obviously)puts little or no emphasis on girls basketball? Did you ever hear of the word "sportsmanship"?

Who is the head of basketball ops for the Chicago Public Schools?

i've never been on the losing side of that kind of victory, but i think it would be more embarrasing to have a team up by 50-60 points with its bench players in just standing with the ball at half court. it's not the winning teams fault that the other team can't play any defense at all. Even verse the dominant teams scrubs. make an adjustment or two.

another game you forgot tho. in NY that girl who scored like 120 pts. and her team won 150-60
Blowouts will happen .... in basketball it's tough not to have those games in girls hoops; BUT, this thread may have some biased undertones .... a recent post suggesting that St. Rita's blowout of a public league baseball team 40-something to zero was just "solid baseball." --- Believe it or not, the 40+ to zero score was one of the most ridiculous scores I have ever heard of in baseball -- subs or not -- HOWEVER, given the talent on some of the teams in the PL -- it is perhaps a predicted result ... where are all of the Rita supporters on this thread ... same topic ... different response ... hmmmmmmmmmm
If your starters play no more than a quarter, you walk the ball up the court, work the ball around the perimeter & don't play pressure defense you wouldn't humiliate a team.
Why would starters even want to be in a game like that? To pick up meaningless stats and risk injury? You get nothing out of that - play your reserves and work on things.
Have seen a few games where teams who like to run it up are on opposite end and it's quite enjoyable to watch. Such as Kentucky taking some beatings this year.
The girls' basketball team at my younger son's HS has a record of 23-1 this year. When the score gets to a certain margin against weaker teams, they work on passing (besides giving all the bench players playing time of course). The coach tells them a certain number of minimum passes they must make before attempting a basket - at least 5, but depending on the game, it could be a higher number. If a player forgets and shoots early, she will be pulled subbed for, as a reminder.

Most of the game scores stay at a reasonable margin this way, though there was an early game that they won 85-9. I'm guessing the coach started the passing rule after that game!
Example of another lopsided score, but I know the coach was trying:

Last night the Boys varsity won 94-22. Starting in the 2nd quarter the coach's rules were: Offensively, cannot attempt a basket until 5 passes are completed, and no layups even after 5 passes. Defensively, can only guard the other team when they enter the lane. Of course all the bench players got plenty of time. What else are they supposed to do, stop shooting completely and let the other team drive through the lane uncontested? Seems like that would be an insult to the other team.
