Yup, RFF, I use a combination of some of the things others have said here.  First off, this is fall.  As TPM hinted, fall is practice.  It's great if you can make an intersquad or fall game but it is practice and it is mostly the boys' time for themselves and the coaches.  (Yet, as I say that, I was pretty excited about his report on his first intersquad yesterday )

Come spring, the handful of games we do make, I definitely try to get to know each player, pull for everyone, for the team.  Talk to other parents about their kids and their other kids - get the focus off mine.  When I do talk about mine, I try to talk about non-baseball stuff more often than not, and talk about our other kids.  I am very analytical at games and like to watch what everyone is doing, what moves coaches make, etc.  Son just happens to be involved in this game I'm enjoying watching.

Watching the games with online updates is harder.  I just watch the score and know that a win will make for a happier kid and team, regardless of what son did that day.

But here's the biggest... for the few who know some of our son's trials, he's been through a lot to be at this point.  And that, I'm sure, can be said to a great extent of any player still playing into the college years.  So, every day is gravy.  Every day he gets to practice, every hit, every great play, every win, every day he's out with the boys, heck even every pitch of every game whether he's on the field or on the bench.  His turn will be over some time between tomorrow and a year and a half from now.  Keeping that at the forefront helps keep things in perspective and allows us to just relax a bit...  A bit.

Good luck with that RFF
