Apparently they have just started forming this month, with some of the teams jumping over from prior leagues. They'll be playing in 2011.

Wondering if any of you might have any knowledge/details of what's going down.

Sounds like son's team will indeed get to play the Crabs and others like the Folsom Pioneers, Redding Colt 45s, etc....so I'm guessing this big merger of teams will be forming the new FWL. Only thing is....son went to sleep before he told me what team HE was going to be on.....oh well. Hope to know what's going on shortly.

The Far West League has a chance to turn into a really good league. It is the combination of several leagues, along with some good independent teams, merging the Tri-State League with the Pacific West Baseball League. Though I've had a collegiate team the last 4 years and have played many of these teams, we won't be seeking to join the league as I'm dropping my collegiate program to focus on Connie Mack and younger teams. I've found that it is difficult to operate a high level collegiate team unless that is your sole, or overwhelming, priority.

This new league will have some very good programs, including the Bend Elks, Humboldt Crabs, Redding Colt 45s and Marysville Gold Sox, among others. I won't be surprised it it eventually turns into a high profile league that becomes more and more desirable for top level collegiate players to spend their summers playing in.
