Rest is always an option. What are the players long term goals. If he is pre-HS do you want him to play in HS. If in HS, do you want him to play in college. Keep the big picture in sight.

Depending on the age, just rest him for a week and have him gradually go back to throwing - the kids rebound much quicker then we do. The beginning of a season is always tough on arms and every decent coach knows that.

He will feel great, his arm will still be sore, but he won't care!

That's a pretty disgusting thing to be posting on this board, especially when you are referring to a child. And kidding or not, its not funny. I hope the moderator is paying attention. == yep ==

Rest is always an option and you mentioned he can rest tomorrow. As for the pain, no one here can really diagnose the cause of pain but I can share what I have learned through the way. Bicep soreness is usually not too bad it is muscle in that area, however remember John Elway's injury . Forearm pain has become another story. Depending on where it is, how far it travels up the arm, the intensity of forearm pain and how long it has been present can be the pre pain warning to elbow or the dredful UCL injury. I would have him looked at asap, by a doctor that is familiar with throwing. It may be just preseason soreness but Its a good precaution to take. In addition to the above , take a look at his mechanics and see if anything he's doing may be causing the pain.
Good Luck

He says the muscle bicep and forearm is where the soreness is...

thanks for all the responses, well most of them. Razz

Let me guess...
...feels like a toothache in his bicep and forearm??

If so, that is normal. Just have to make sure he does NOT alter his mechanics.

If it persists, or moves to the inside of his elbow (near the funny bone) or to the front side of the shoulder, you need to shut him down and get him to a doc.
