My 07 was recently invited to the Team One South Super Regional in Tampa in mid-September. Anybody had any recent experience with their events and how they are run and how well attended they are by scouts (college & pro)? Also; he's a North Carolina kid and recently attended PG's Atlantic Coast Top Prospect in Chapel Hill NC and wants to go to a North Carolina, Virginia or South Carolina school; do you think it would even be worth while for him to go to a Florida event?

I feel I wasted about $1,000 on a Team One event. They told us that my son's pop times were high because of a mechanical problem and that he would do well taking private lessons at Team One. They also said that he lacked power at the plate.

When being evaluated by many pro clubs and the ML Scouting Bureau this spring, my son's two "plus" tools were arm and power. PM me if you would like and I'll show you where to find the evaluations.

Perfect Game had my son's ability nailed and their evaluation was supported by MLB clubs and the ML Bureau.

My advice to a player who wants to go to a specific school is to find out if there is a prospect camp at the college and go to it. Then you are assured of being seen by the coaching staff.

A year ago, Team One had a terrific operation here in Northern California. They were doing their job and the kids were benefiting. However, earlier this year the gentlman that handled the operations switched emplorers and went to Perfect Game. Team One has lost it's visibility and now Perfect Game is doing a good job.

My point, each area of the country is different and the person running the area probably has a lot to do with how the program operates in your area.

I would agree with that but my experience is limited to 3 years ago, prior to the Baseball Factory alliance, and an eternity in the showcase biz.
Of the showcases, My son attended, I was most disappointed in Team One... I signed up my son for a WEST showcase, and in their handout it mentioned if he was selected to the USA team out of Joplin that we could get a refund of our money. Well my son was selected as one of the 30 players that stayed an additional week of tryouts in Joplin and this caused him to miss the TEAM One Event... Eventually my son did not make the final 18 members for the USA team... and so TEAM ONE said HE did not make the USA team and refused to refund our entry fee....

Next time I learned to READ the fine print...

The new alliance between Team One and Baseball Factory only means that there are more higher salaries to pay and probably a great deal more fine print. One of their leaders and chief spokesman is Rick Sofield, a former first round selection who was a self-admitted Major League bust. I give the owners credit - they know how to make money and throw it around. Sadly, they bought their way into Baseball America and Prospects Plus, effectively downgrading BA's credibility in ranking players. Now, the players who pay the most to Team One and the Baseball Factory will benefit.
ILVBB and O44 hit the nail on the head, as far as California goes. BC did an outstanding job for T1, and now for PG.

I find it difficult to recommend a showcase company to the boys who play in my program when the local representative for T1/BBFactory has his own travel club. It just strikes me as a bit of a conflict to work both sides of the fence.
