Yes sir, you are correct. I just had some questions about qualification information, scheduling conflicts if I was to play in a summer collegiate league, salary, etc. Since I am still an active player, I don't have the ability to coach during the typical spring season. I would like to be able to find an ideal situation that could accommodate me while also serving as a resume builder, but I understand I cannot do it on my own. I know the success of this website to help people get their foot in the door, so I was hoping for some help. If I cannot get the help because of my need of "remedial English", then I apologize for my incompetence and idiocy.

Im guessing that you wouldn't be able to play and coach at the same time. Coaching is a lot more than just the game, if you want to do it right. There are times that my head coach and I are exchanging texts or emails at 1am going over line up ideas or possible position changes.

You will not have the time to play and coach and most likely will have conflicts between the games you're playing and the ones you're coaching. If you arent/wont commit fully to coaching the team then wait until you can or will.

I actually helped coach a high school summer team the summer after my freshman year of college. And I didn't play college baseball....

Sir, for the summer I am asking about the position I will be an upcoming senior entering my last year of college. Aside from that, I have been a volunteer assistant coach for my high school for nearly two months when I am on both winter, spring, and summer break for the last 2 years. I also volunteered my time coaching youth players both my junior and senior years of high school. And last but not least, I work for a minor league baseball team and see how practice is ran at the professional level each and every day. I would appreciate if assumptions were not made about my qualifications for such a position. To be completely honest, the only person who should be worried about my qualifications would be someone interested in hiring me. Obviously this is a long shot, but I was hoping to gain more information on an idea I simply had. I'm learning that this probably wasn't my best option, however, I wasn't expecting questioning by such a harmless post. If you happen to have a problem with what I have had to say, please PM opposed to making this a public affair.

As for the assumption you made about my summer plans sir, I have played competitively during the summers since I was 13 years old while winning 3 state championships and numerous tournaments along the way. I spent last summer playing in a summer collegiate league, however, I was not able to do so this summer due to the fact that my college major requires me to do a summer internship. I chose to stay close to home to do my internship with a minor league baseball team to be closer to my family during a time of need. What I believe is sad is the fact that I have to make these types of comments just to defend myself about asking a simple question about coaching. I have been able to pitch for a few travel/adult league tournaments to keep my arm in shape for the start of the season. Overall, I am much more concerned about my future in the real world opposed to what I can accomplish on the field sir. Regardless of what people believe, you can't play forever.

With all due respect, if you aren't an individual who can help me with my basic request I would greatly appreciate if you left your comments to yourself. If need be, I can get this entire post removed. Thank you for the time.

Iowa HS baseball begins mid to late May. Teams are limited to 43 or so games. The state tournament is usually the last week in July. Larger schools play varsity double headers so they do not play every night. Smaller schools typically play their JV game followed by the varsity game and the schools that play a max schedule will only have Sundays off.

It would be difficult, is not impossible, to perform your best as both a coach and a player at the same time. Volunteering would keep you active, but not required.

Hi,

Practice begins usually first week of May with games starting 2 weeks later.

Some of the larger Iowa schools will field three teams.  The freshman level teams at least in our area play double headers at noon. Shorter schedule than soph/varsity. Probably only have a handful of JV games which are played by varsity bench guys, usually on out of conference dates.

We have hired college guys frequently to coach the freshman level teams.  So this is doable if the Soph/Varsity coaches can cover until your college season is over.

FYI: coaching freshman is like herding chickens... takes a lot of patience and repetition.... Had one college guy try to run a frosh team like his college squad... didn't go well.

Sophomore teams play opposite whatever the varsity is scheduled.  So if varsity is home against cross town rival then sophs play same team away.  Usually 5:00 and 7:00 games.

We have also had college players work as volunteer assistant coaches particularly if they are pitchers.  They would attend practice/games as frequently as their schedule would allow.

Also if you are looking for information regarding specific teams check out the Quik Stats link below.  It has all the updated stats for all the varsity teams statewide.  It is also archived so you can go back a few years as well.

Last thing you may want to check is the conference affiliation.  Some conferences are pretty spread out and you end up with some really late nights due to bus travel.

Holler if you have questions about particular programs.

Hope this helps
