It depends on the age of the player. Ours still hangs on the pole for the basketball hoop.

First and foremost your son must have developed solid mechanics and a repeatable swing that uses these mechanics. We spent a lot of time developing this in our sons.

With that said, from the time that they were 11 or 12 up until just before HS they would each take 100 cuts or so a day on the swingaway. It was a great piece of equipment in my opinion for players in this age group.

They key is to be sure that the player has good mechanics, because the swingaway will develop muscle memory, you want to be sure that the memory being created is correct.
Yeah...I blew it too! Swingaway...

The piece of equipment that I always wanted to get but never did was one of those soft toss machines that would pop up a ball for you. They handled about 20 or 30 balls and hit them into a net.

We did build a soft toss screen in the backyard and used a tee as well hitting buckets of balls each day. That worked well, and I always loved soft tossing to my kids myself, that was fun and I wish I had those years back.

A net and a bucket of balls is all you need and then maybe a Tee.

The swing away you are talking about is a great product. My son's hitting coach uses it all of the time. It allows the player to watch the ball flight off of the string so they get instant feedback. It also allows for easy video taping to look at swings minus the variable of the ball moving.

We don't have one at home, but having one would allow a player to get in good quality swings without nets, t's, etc etc.
I've got a Swingway set up in the garage and love it! The one I have (does not fold down) is not at all portable...but that's not why we got it.

It does what it says it does...inside, outside, high low, down the middle...I use it as much as my son does...lots of fun!

You can video from every angle and get a ton of reps in in very little time. You can see the trajectory of the ball, and it is back in position almost instantly.

A net & tee will do the same thing, but I think this thing is much more efficient.
