anyone want to start a Region 1 discussion.

I don't know the first thing about Region I, but just a suggestion. Rather than just ask for input, do an analysis of your own (top teams, top players, potential draft picks or college prospects, etc...). Its likely someone hear will recognize a name or have experience against a team and generate a response. As the word gets around in your area, the discussion will grow and you'll eventually have all the talk you can handle (everybody likes to talk about their kid, team, etc...)

new to the region myself the only thing i know is louisa and orange are supposed to be the top teams in the jefferson, courtland and spotsylvania are top dogs in battlefield.

Who are some of the top players in that region? I know of an OF with a last name of Fleming that is supposed to be very good (I think his Dad is a scout for the Pirates), but I believe he has transferred from Louisa to St Christophers.

BTW, I noticed you are a UVA fan. Were you at the UVA/Bucknell DH saturday? Not a bad day for baseball (considering its still February). The young 'Hoos looked pretty good in their debut

I was not at the game but i heard the boys really gave it to buckell, the hultzman kid is the real deal. I found out Courtland in the battlefield lost 7 seniors but return a good left handed stick in Mcbroom ( i think that was his name) and Sportsylvania has one of the best pitchers in a kid with last name of Houston..

Hultzman certainly is for real. Another freshman RHP Virginia will get some quality innings from is Roberts.
I think UVA may surprise some people and could make a run in the ACC.

Is the Jefferson District in Region #1? I know the Battlefield is.

Bucknell lost 6 of it's 2008 positional starters this year and is picked to finish 4th in the Patriot League this season. Not sure a W over them to open up is good predictor of success in conference play.

The fact that UVA beat Bucknell was not why I think they will do well in the ACC this year. Sorry for your team. Bucknell will improve as the year progresses I'm sure.
UVA just has a lot of young guys that I know can play. UVA actually swept a four game series and only allowed one run I believe. That is the kind of pitching and defense it will take when they hit the tough ACC schedule.

3-Up

You have Eastern View #3, I don't know much about them except that they are brand new which usually doesn't equate to success. Just wondering if you can shed any additional light on Eastern View.

Courtland lost more players than Spotsylvania to graduation so I'll give the nod to Spotsylvania and I think Spotsylvania pitching will be stronger than Courtland's. Although I would not count out Courtland they always compete.

I'm not sure that any of the other teams in the Battlefield have the pitching to challenge for the two top positions with Courtland and Spotsylvania, but you never know who might have developed...

Orange has a very solid team and should compete well.

They return some nice pitching in DJ Brown (JMU Early Sign) and a crafty Jr. lefty in Derick Justice. I don't think they lost a whole lot from last year so there defense is still intact and their stick have another year's experience.

I think Orange has a very good chance at winning the Jefferson District.

Louisa - I don't know that much about Louisa, expect they grow those boys BIG.

i know that Eastern View has started out 4-0 with 2 no hitters thrown by 2 different pitchers and they were AAA Cedar Run district last year with culpeper players, and culpeper coach. so they are starting out good we shall see when they get into district play.

There has only been one Battlefield District game so far with Spotsy beating King George on friday 9-3.

Spotsy wins against Manassas Park 7-2

Spotsy moves to 4-0, and has started 4 different pitchers to begin the season : R W Payne(soph), M. Houston (Jr), C. Armstrong (Sr), T. Payne (Jr). All have garnered wins and pitched very well with only two runs scored on them as a group. The sticks are hot too scoring 37 runs.

The big game is set for Friday when Courtland comes to Post Oak Park for a visit. The three games last year between these rivals were decided by a total of 4 runs, with Spotsy getting the short end.
I can't wait so please no rain !

Eastern View moves to 5-0 beating KG, so it looks like Spotsy better be ready for the new team in the district.

Heard caroline lost to riverbend. and Eastern View has outscored their opponents 54-5 in 5 games. So spotsy and courtland will have a nice run. i think courtland is 3-3 overall 1-0 in district.

should be a good games friday with spotsy and courtland. think JM and king george play, and EV and caroline play.

The Commonwealth looks like a wide open race with Stafford in the early lead. It should be an exciting season and will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Looks like Orange, Spotsylvania and Eastern View are rolling along nicely. Eastern View has been dominating there opponents outscoring them 78-7 their pitching staff has only given up 14 hits in 7 games and the team is hitting very well. Spotsy is also undefeated doing very well at 6-0. Orange not sur eof overall record but i think it is 5-0 DJ brown 14 k's vs fluvanna then they beat monticello 11-1. so looks good. Also looks like Louisa is struggling. Does anyone know who won the chancellor vs courtland game on 3/31.

I heard that Courtland put up a 20 spot on them. Chancellor is VERY thin on pitching this year.

Caroline beat King George last night but I didn't get the score. I hope Caroline's Coach Dow doesn't overuse Andrew Tyree. He is probably their only real pitcher so he will see a lot of work.

Courtland beat Brooke point last night 10-0. but brook pint not very good, also chancellor put 20 up on culpeper i thin it was 20-8, courtland and eastern view play friday at EV should be a good game courtland seems hot, I saw a lefty pitch for caroline one game i think his name was wright #9 he was good, but i know tyree has pitched a couple of games.

The Courtland/Brooke Point game was awful.

No excuses, but to say that BP is not very good is a little unfair. They held out 2 of their 3 seniors, and pitched guys with zero experience.

Courtland hit well as usual, but they did not see BP's 1, 2, 3 or even number 4 pitcher.

As the old saying goes "comes down to pitching" and maybe it should be changed to "comes down to how many pitchers".

There was recently a very good post under a Commonwealth thread that adequately pointed out most teams have a #1 guy that can get it done.. But the team that's carrying the #2, #3 or even #4 guy that can keep his team in the game could be the team on top at the end.

Playing three games a week you obviously need depth at pitching.

How you fair could come down to who you face in your opponents rotation.... Could be big difference in #1 and #3....

Seems to me that Brooke Point pitching inexperienced pitchers against a non-ditrict opponent, to promote development, is smart -- win or lose.....

I've watched games this year in the Commonwealth and the Battlefield and honestly I think a lot of teams are rebuilding... There was a lot of lost talent from 2008 in both of these districts.

It was a sad night for the Knights as Aaron Klocks father passed during the game after a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer.

It should be very interesting coming down to the wire. Top 4 look like Chancellor, EV, Spotsy and CT. But am curious how they will be seated.

I just heard that they have changed the Battlefield District Tournament to only 4 teams this year. Can anyone confirm this? It is to be held at Courtland this year and at Spotsy in 2010.

Yeah i heard the same playoffs are at Courtland and the top 4 get in, i also heard they changed the all-district selections is that true? I heard they do it by your regular season record of how many you can get?

Spotsy beat Courtland 4-2 to improve to 8-0 in district good pitching matchup Courtland now 6-2 in district.

EVHS beat Caroline 17-10 to improve to 6-2 in district and tie with Courtland for 2nd. Slugfest EV 22 hits.

KG beat Chancellor not sure of score or who did what.

that is all that happened in the Battlefield that i know of.

Any suggestions maybe some stats on someone for District player of the year in the commonwealth or the battlefield. I know some teams have some players with some serious offensive numbers this season.
