Runner at 2nd rounds 3rd, misses the base, bang, bang play at home, do I call the runner out on my intitial call because he missed 3rd, or if he is safe at home, do I call hime safe and wait on an appeal?
My thinking was, if the ball was still live, and he's tagged, he would be out for missing the previous base. I could see it if there's no play on the runner who missed the base, but my thinking is it's a live ball, he missed the previous base, and a play is being made on ther runner, so as long as he was tagged when the ball was live, he'd be out. Guess not. Thanks.
Midlo has it. The miss of 3rd is an appeal. If the catcher tagged him and indicated to the umpire he was appealing the miss of 3rd, he'd be out and the ball would stay live. Otherwise the call is safe at home, with the runner subject to being called out on proper appeal.
