Are batting gloves part of the Uniform?

Saw a play last night where Minnesota Twins player Torii Hunter was called out at home. It appeared the umpire saw the catcher tag him on the batting gloves hanging out his back pocket and the player was called out. What do the rules say?

you can be HBP at the glove in the pocket, so you most certainly can be tagged there as well
