Trying to find info on how to get invite to area code tryout .son was contacted by mlb, after summer ball and sent in all info. But has not been contacted since. Another mlb scout contacted my sons hsc, and came to his last game. Can questionnaire from area code site be sent in without a direct scouts endorsement or can you just put which organizations they were affiliated with. Any other info would be great. I know that the nationals are having one in early June and the Yankees are having one also in Allentown in June

Thanks

I'm not sure if anyone has tried out for 2 teams? A really cool experience though - great t shirt; and best of all free.
I think that the scout that contacted you would be a great reference point; in addition to anyone else you know of. Send him a note you will be using him.
Probably only 10% of the ones who go are actively sought I think...the really high follows.
I noticed that there were a select few that were very familar to the scouts at the tryout. They knew them well; used them in select drills; deservedly so.

Dman,

I assume the number of kids varies by region. In SoCal they start with about 80-100 kids per day and then cut it in half for the afternoon. Morning is a pro-style workout with BP and then they do simulated games in the afternoon.

They go INF, OF, 1st, Catch and P as far as the tryout. BP, for all position players. They do a typical pro style workout and then make cuts for the afternoon games. Pitchers throw a bullpen in the morning and then in simulated game in the afternoon.

At least in the West Coast the final selections are invited back for a final tryout a week or two later and then the teams are made up. Selections are solely up to the pro team and it is not always based on performance, as some of the team may be pre-selected based on reputations/name. It is a great experience so tell your son to be loose and just go out and have fun, he will be with the top players from his region and will likely recognize many of them from past tournaments, school teams, etc.

Be aware that they usually do not allow for two way players and a two way will have to chose pitch or position. Pretty much all RHP chosen are 90+.
Doughnutman;

In 2004, two LHP did not make the AC from the tryouts.

Jonathan Niese is pitching tonight on ESPN for the Mets and the second is Brian Matusz from Cave Creek. Both showed 91 mph and were not recommend except by a East Coast Expos Scout who coached our International Teams
to Australia.

I placed both 6'5 LHP on the Expos 900 team based on this one recommendation.
