If you search on the topic "Area Code" you will find lots of good info in previous posts about this event. I am curious about the 2020 invite though. I thought invites for tryouts for each year's area code games went out out the same year the games were to be held. At least that is how it worked the year my son tried out and attended the games (2015).  I guess I don't see what would be gained by sending out invites three years in advance when players still have so much development ahead of them. But maybe times are changing and the thinking behind the event is now different than it was a few years ago.

So the year my son attended I'm pretty sure all the official invites (tryouts and to the games themselves) came directly from the organizers of our region's Area Code team (Brewers - different teams may do it differently). Almost all of the players were rising seniors, with a few very talented rising juniors in the mix (e.g., Hunter Greene).  There were also underclass games held at the same time that were primarily for rising juniors. Even though the invites didn't come from MLB scouts, we were told that all of the invites were based on recommendations from scouts. So it sounds like at least one MLB scout has your son on his radar and you can expect that he will be getting an official invite to tryout for an Area Code team in 2020.  Until then, I think you can sit back and enjoy the ride!  (While your talented son keeps working hard of course )
