I will say the pitchers were way ahead of the hitters. Every righty was 90 plus and has breaking stuff. Kid from Houston was 96-99. Really good pitchers and they choose the correct pitchers to make the team. Cannot argue with anything.
The last pitcher of the night was a big kid. Some college scouts had already left. All of a sudden he throws a 97 mile per hour fastball, and a couple of MLB scouts went, "WOO!" Don't know the kid, but they do now.
I thought i heard them say he hit 98 on the gun...and heard he had broken his arm a couple months prior and this was his 2nd or 3rd time back on mound. I may look at ways to break my kids arm if thats the case.
So is everyone talking about the same Houston kid or are there two kids?
My son was invited, but suffered a stress fracture in his leg right before district ended. Was not able to throw at AC, but went anyway. He really wanted to throw..
I think they are talking about the same Houston kid - Tyler Kolek from Shephard. His brother Steven threw very well too. Tyler was extended an invite to the team, as was 2014's Patrick Mahomes, Michael Cantu, and Michael Kopech, and two 2015's, Ryan Johnson and Beau Burrows.

Since my son is a catcher I watched that group more, and the Cantu kid clearly had a lot of power and all the other tools. You can see why UT so high on him. Kopech was clearly going to make the team, as he made it last year and did very well. Heard his velocity was 94 or so. Congratulations to all that made it.
For those who would like to see Tyler Kolek pitch against some of the best high school players in the country, you can watch it at this link On Friday morning. It will also be archived for later viewing.

This thread has been so helpful. I have been lurking this forum for quite some time and felt the urge to finally ask a question which I cannot find an answer for.
My 2016 son has decided to drop Varsity football / soccer to concentrate on baseball only after this current football season. this was an early Christmas present for me. He is 15, 6' 170 (size 11 hands, 13 feet) been paying baseball since he was 5, loves baseball with all his heart.
I think he is good and every coach from every sport loves the kid, very teachable. 4.0 GPA, all honors, varsity as freshman ect...
He is concentrating on baseball not for a free ride but rather to "help" with the admissions process to a top College, just something a little more to compete with the other 4.0 / perfect SAT students applying.
now that that's out of the way. We live on Kauai, if you have not been here then understand that this is a rural place, we have 3 high schools and 66k residents. How would my son expect to get an invite from such a rural situation? do we need to travel to specific events? Kids from Hawaii do get invites but not from Kauai. The honor roll / Stanford trip is going to cost us about 4k and spending more is not in my future.
If scouts are making the choices, and no scouts come to Kauai (or any other rural area) is the protocol to find out who the scout is and forward videos? or just pray that they come to a game? How would someone even find out who the scout is for the Hawaii area? is there one?
Thank you for ALL the information on this board, it is helping us understand the process
Hey KauaiDad,
If I were you I would go to West Coast Forum and ask. You should also consider sending kid to showcases on West coast, like Stanford Camp. In addition, when in San Diego we played against a couple of teams from Utah that had kids that were part of a traveling baseball team funded by a foundation. There were two Hawaii kids on one of the teams that received a lot of interest, including a catcher that committed to Oregon State that also was being considered by USA baseball . Hope this helps.
Kauai Dad;
We are coordinating with the Rays scout a Hawaii Island event in early Nov.

The #5 ranked player in our national prospect rankings is from Hawaii. If your son is extremely talented I suggest you contact him or his family For suggestions. We didn't know much about him until June of this year and not very many people knew about him. All 30 MLB clubs and all the top DI's know a lot about him now.

Medeiros was absolutely disgusting at PG AA. My lord.
Thank you for the responses.
allbaba - we are hoping that that 2014 honor roll and stanford camps are scheduled like 2013 so that we can make them both trip one trip.
consultant- thank you and submitted
rjm- thank you also, probably will not do that but we are contemplating a 5 weeks img camp with some sat prep next summer. Stilly up in the air though
thanks again, very very helpful information
Seems as if Kansas recruits in Hawaii. They rolled through last season with about four starters from around the state. Nice trip for the recruiting coordinater.
Took our 2017 to Cal State Fullerton Prospect Camp this past August - 1 player flew there from Hawaii - another player flew there from Japan. I had the sense they were both hitting West Coast events during their trip.
We have invited baseball players from Japan, Mexico and Singapore to join our 19th annual GOODWILL SERIES in AUSTRALIA December for 36 games.
Our players will be coachEd by pro scouts and wear Reds, Rays and Yankees uniforms.
