Funny story involving this. So yesterday at a perfect game showcase, my team and I were sitting and waiting for our game to start when one of my teammates says, "I got something in the mail the other day about trying out for something called the Area Code Games. I didn't know what it was, so I just threw it away. Does anyone know anything about that?" Needless to say, me and the rest of my teammates all looked at each other and were completely speechless.
This is understandable.

It provides an opportunity for another player.

During my 17 years with the decision making on selecting players for the 8 teams [200 players], I enjoyed placing a player who was "overlooked" at the tryouts and was "hungry" for the opportunity.

There are over 40 players now in the Major Leagues, who were "cut" at the tryouts. We average $35 million each year in signing bonus 1987-2004.

All good, nothing bad. Will give him a great idea on how he compares to the top players in the area. Go out and do the best he can, hustle (out run EVERYONE to their positions), watch and learn. Tons of exposure, to college and pro scouts. If he does not make the team he will know what he has to do to make it next year.

....Plus he will get a cool shirt that will be the envy of all his friends. Wink

My son didn't get "the shirt." He was a late invitee and they just pinned a number on his back like it was a track meet. But the exposure he got was just unbelievable!

If you get invited, you must go.
I am not familiar with Area Code Tryouts. So, sorry if these questions seem elementary.....Are there any more AC tryouts scheduled for this year? What are you actually trying out for(Is it a team that plays summer ball together or just one or two Tourneys)? If you make the team will you have conflicts with travel ball?

Thanks all

For the record arods newphew looked good too

I believe this year's tryouts have been completed, as the actual games begin August 5. I can tell you that the tryouts for my son's "region" were held June 12-13. At that tryout there mostly 2012s and a couple 2013s, so maybe the next 2 years will lead to a tryout for your son.

Also, I was told that each player that was invited to tryout was recommended by a professional scout. My advice to you would be if your son wants to tryout, get him in front a scout or 2 to get an evaluation.

Anyone with any info about who made the 2011 rosters? I have been looking and have not found a comprehensive list.

I was down at the PG WWBA 18U also. What is ARod's nephews name? Which team? I wish I had known while down there, I would have checked him out.
