Has anyone heard anything about the Area Code Tryouts I think they were being held at North Central College? Not sure if that is correct. How many kids attended and how many get selected, any info would be helpful. Thanks
"License and registration please ...we require this before allowing you to post on the HSSBW. Do you know why you were pulled over?"
Just kidding of course...we need a good lawman on this site...being retired is even better...you have lots of time to help keep things peaceable around here!
Welcome to the HSBBW. Someone will know the answer to your question...no doubt!

Brand, you're right...they we're held yesterday at North Central and there were about 160 players (my guess) in attendance.
Not sure how many get selected or what the timing is for the games themselves.
Jarthur could you provide some information about the Area Code process, the info on this and the black and silver showcase seemed pretty skethchy at best. Why the veil of secrecy? From what I'm told, the Area Code team is the real deal, the kids that make this team head to California and this event blows all others out of the water. This event is actually attended by real scouts, not the typical promise of scouts. Tell us about the selection, who does the inviting and who has the power to grant a spot?
I think the High School Websites "Consultant" could answer your questions? Bob Williams is the founder of the Area Code Games. I know he has since separated himself from the tournament side of it and concentrates mostly on the "Goodwill Games" but should be able to fill in the blanks?
I can add a little insight as my son was invited to the one in Texas at Weathorford College. I believe a scout provides there name not exactly sure. But I will tell you in Texas there were 40-70 scouts there most were College from all different levels. It is a long day, bit well worth it becasue of the exposure. Although my son did not make the team that played that evening he did well, and the schools he has interest in were there. There were about 190 kids I thin about 75 pitchers. They chose 19 position players, and 16 pitchers that day to play a game. From there they will cut it to 25 total to go to Long Beach this summer. I will tell you just to be part of the event is an honor. My son felt good about the exposure and the opportunity. Hope this helps
