Specifically, I'm interested in two major points regarding Arkansas:
1. Roster size
I see they currently have 41 on their fall roster. What is their history on this topic? I've read a lot of horror stories on this website about various schools and don't want any surprises! He's a LHP, so I'm learning that the rules are a bit different for him.
2. Last year's problems with suspensions and injuries.
I read on their baseball page that both were a problem last year after a 20-3 start, but don't know the details.

Our son has narrowed his choices to include Arkansas and it seems to have many of the things he values in a college (coaching, academics, facilities, decent weather, strong conference). Its turning out that no school is perfect, so you make the best choice on the most important factors. We're just trying to make the final decision and don't want to leave any stone unturned!
KC,

Darryl Maday, a rhp for the 'Backs, was on the Upper Deck Cougars team in 2001 that went deep into the USA Baseball Junior Olympics/West in Tucson, AZ.

Same thing in the CABA World Series in Crystal Lake, IL., that summer, too.

Call or write him at school and tell him that John Petrulis told you to do so.

If you want to talk with me about the SEC; amateur high school and college baseball, call me: 815-469-4520.

....and he played in the Area Code Games. He can likely contribute early wherever he goes. Roster issues are probably for the "other" kids.

John is right. THe SEC rocks. Arkansas appears to be a first class program. There are probably two or more sides to the "problems". The important thing is the coach is still there. There are issues everywhere. There is drama on nearly every team.

Point 1. Roster size. Although not unusal, they do bring in a lot of new recruits each Fall. Most all recruits are or have been recruited by numerous schools. Roster size will be considerably less in the Spring. Two very highly recruited kids from your area last year(one was a LHP) were on the team last year. They have since both transfered to Univ of MO. Not sure how the rules are different for a LHP but as best I can tell results are what count.

2. Supensions had nothing to do with the Univ it's self. Guess you could say the individual players made bad choices. Injuries are a fact of life and happen in all programs.
The HOGS are having a great recruiting year already with 4 top prospects from Oklahoma and a top Texas pitcher committing already. Dave Van Horn is an aweasome coach who gets results. Look what he did for Nebraksa and then taking UA to Omaha in his second year. Fayetville is a great place to college athletics and the facilities are second to no one's.
