arm speed

My son's arm speed was measured today and we're not exactly sure what that means. Is his velocity the same as the arm speed (didn't measure velocity-just arm speed.) Is velocity typically faster or slower than the gun reading for arm speed or is it the same? Thanks!

You can measure internal rotation of the forearm/hand (in degrees per second) or you can try to measure linear speed of the hand (in mph) which would sort of map to ball velocity but that probably wouldn't take into account the snap of the fingers so it might not map EXACTLY to ball velocity.

As a pitcher I've always been told that high arm velocity is key. Having said that, I've heard high arm velocity with minimal effort is the best to have (some consider it a "loose" arm).
