In the strength and conditioning forum I found some good information on building arm strength. There were some positive comments made on a program called the "Athletic Pitcher Program", by Ron Wolforth. Have any of you folks heard of the program, or better yet used it? Or do you have any other favorites?

Sorry for the post in the Texas forum, but it has almost 4X the activity as the S & C forum. Just planning ahead for the offseason... Smile

From what I have heard about it, it is more of a conditioning program. Sounds like a bunch of mad scientist stuff. Throwing with weighted vests on while standing on balance beams. No icing arms. Renounce all previous throwing programs. I am speaking second hand, but it sounds like someone trying to reinvent the wheel.
My son particpates in the Athletic Pitcher program and he has gained alot from it. His velocity has increased around 7 mph over the fall from working hard with Ron Wolforth. The training involves a lot of agility work, conditioning, and core strength. It also contains a lot of weighted ball work to help strengthen the arm. Ron only teaches the basics and is trying to develop arm strength while also focusing a lot of work on taking care of the arm with numerous activities to help recover and help the arm. Quoting my son "Coach Ron knows what he is talking about and the program contains some great stuff that will definitely increase your potential." At his facility, Ron is working with high school athletes, college players and professional players. We have seen measurable progress with our son in his program and highly recommend it!

I like to stay smooth when I pitch. I know a few people personally who train with him and they are very jerky in their delivery. It helps improve velocity but from what this person tells me, their is almost no work done mechanically to improve your ability to throw strikes and have command of the zone. IMO mechanical flaws are the biggest reason why most kids don't/can't throw to their potential when it comes to velocity.

just my two cents..
