Here is a situation that happened to us this year...

playing in a tourney, HS Federation rules... bases loaded, one out... batter hits a slow chopper down 1st base line (fair)... first baseman runs in to get ball, trys to tag runner- collision -ump said runner, who is about 30-40 ft. up baseline was running slightly in fair side of chalk... Ump calls runner out for interferance... then says runner at 3rd base is out because the ump assumed that they prob would have turned two - in his judgment....

yes? no?

Not sure what the Fed rules say, but OBR say:

"If the umpire declares the batter, batter runner, or a runner out for interference ... In the event the batter runner has not reached first base, all runners shall return to the base last occupied at the time of the pitch."

I'm guessing it's the same for Fed rules. Maybe someone can verify.
yeah... it was bad... it was a 5-3 ballgame at this point (we were down) in the 6th inning... the thing was that the 2nd baseman was not covering first, and our runner from third was no more than 15 ft. from home, at collision time... so with 1st baseman tagging runner, wouldn't catcher have had to tag runner from third to get the doubleplay out...
