My 3 year old righty is hitting left naturally and lasering the ball with his right. Just wanted to hear some of the stories of what you did with your three and four year old back in the day. Oh, I do have a question.. When did the catch start working out? I have a 7 year old daughter (who is dynamite Smile ) I just don't remember how old she was on her catching abilities.

Well according to most experts on Catching, "If they haven't mastered the catch by the Age of 2 it probably wasn't going to happen and that their chances of making the High School team or even playing in College is remote. I think maybe you should just work with him with the bat, he could turn out to be a great pinch hitter!!!

Sorry penja, couldn't resist a little humor on this great Friday morning.

My 12 yr old throws right and switch hits. I had him bat only left until his second year of coach pitch. He hits with the same power on both sides. As far as catching goes, He was catching fly balls when he was three from his older brother when I would pitch to him. The day he was born, we had a game that day and his brother left his glove in his bed when we left to go play. So he was born with a glove in his hand. The highschool coach has been watching him play and is ready for him to come play now. Wait a minute, thats just dad dreaming again. I really don't know when he started catching and no, the coach does not even know who he is. But having him bat left until coach pitch is true!
Yes, I've seen some kids at 12 look like locks for big time. A few have continued to improve, many have dropped of the radar screen. Some were advanced at that age and others have caught up with them. One kid that sticks out that has continued to improve is that fast, lefty from Duncanville who plays for DBAT. He was a stud at 12 and still is today.
