Ok guys, we are ready to tell you some of the college coaches and Pro scouts that have RSVP'd to attend at least one of the five weeks to watch games. Some coaches did say they will come 2 or 3 times.

University of Houston, Hill JC, UPenn, Grayson JC, DBU, Georgetown, Texas Tech, University of Richmond, Texas State, University of Texas, McLennan JC, NCTC, Frank Phillips, TCU, UTA, Northwood, UT Tyler, Arkansas, Texarkana JC, LSU, NC State, UTD, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals, Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, MLB Scouting Bureau, Chicago White Sox.

I have received emails from all of these coaches giving me dates that they will be here. I still have about 10-12 schools that have RSVP'd, but they could not give me firm dates at this time. 3 of them are Big 12 schools, at least 5 JC's, and 3 or 4 D2/D3 schools.

My list includes:
Paris JC, Navarro, OU, KSU, McLennan, Midland, Odessa, and Western Texas JC. University of Evansville, Wichita State,UL-Monroe and UL-Lafayette. SFASU, Ark State (Coach Lawler) and David Pierce from Rice. I may have duplicated some of Cades, but you get the idea...These are RSVP's..There will be others that will show up. They apparently did not go to RSVP school. These lists will be over the 5 week period, not just the first day....

Ken not sure I understand your question. Sorry DBU.edu

Randy,

It would be very hard to find a college coach within 800 miles that was not invited. DIII, DII, DI, JC, NAIA, and Ivy League schools. I have called or emailed at least 200 coaches. Sam and Shayne have also done a lot. So to answer your question yes they have. The response has been great but the % you don't want to know. But in defense of the % I invited schools from all up north knowing that they would probably not come but I figured it was worth a shot.
Ken,

I am assuming you mean different direction by not going to all of the paid showcases. I think that has already slowed down. DBAT did not have the problems this year that we had when you coached. I think the parents are starting to trust the organization they play for more. On a small scale the Metro League has proven that you don’t need to travel the country to get exposure. Dallas is a great town to get as much exposure needed. In the last 2 days I have had good players call me from W. Falls, Longview, Tyler, Midland, Amarillo, Shreveport, and Galveston asking how they get into the league. These parents want to come to Dallas. It is the grass is greener theory……
I just looked over the scout league rosters. I thought there were only going to be 16 on a team????
now there are 20!
wish I had asked more questions now. If everyone plays equally I will be lucky to get 4-6 innings out of the double header each week. And with games lasting from 10 in the morning to 8:30 at night how many scouts are going to stay there 10 hours on a Sunday? Hope I get the early games!

I had the same concerns but I realized it took a lot to put this league together and in the end getting this kind of exposure should be worth it.

The rosters are set by position with 4 Pitcher Only players per team plus each team has several players that also want to pitch. 4 PO's X 3 innings = 12 innings, that leaves 2 innings for the non-PO pitchers. That is not a lot of innings to go around. However the other position players will get 7 plus innings a Sunday and 3 to 4 AB's, that works almost all the way around.

If Meat is still playing at a level that gets him invited back next year we will approach it differently. He would elect to be a PO.

If this thing works maybe they will add some teams and reduce the rosters....lots of maybe's but so far it looks like a good start. I am sure these guys will figure it out as well as listen to what the Scouts tell them they want to see.

Our problem was trying to please the HS Coach and get Meat the exposure he needs.

I have always preached that it is important for a player to play to help his HS team and get seen so he can go play at the next level. Meat should be able to help his HS team with the bat and pitch but most of the advise I am getting right now is focus on him being a pitcher.

The advise is starting to sink in...something about the words "learn his craft" come to mind. But being part of the team and helping his HS team win with him at first and swinging the bat still appeals to him and to me.

Focus on one position is a theme in this league, where will the player project in College is the question that needs to be answered.
It was nice to finally meet tychco today. catcher, it was good to see you again too...it's been a while.

The guys in the red shirts mentioned something called the High School Baseball Web -- what's that???

I left today's meeting excited about the league and its potential. I wonder how a few of the rules will impact game strategies, but it should be interesting and fun to watch --- and a great opportunity for the kids.

Cool

PD,

It was great to FINALLY meet you in person...JE looks like he might be able to take you in a wrestling match .

The league sounds terrific, catcher...there was some great-looking talent at the meetings today.

As soon as a pitcher gets to pitch number 20, he may face one more hitter after that, unless the side is retired. It will help with moving the games along.

Shoot me a call if this is not clear...

We want the pitchers to focus on 15 pitches an inning as a goal...
Catcher,
My son has always been taught that 12 to 15 pitches an inning would be a good goal for pitch counts per inning.

If I read this correctly and after listening to the rules yesterday, it appears that 3 outs, 4 runs or 20 pitches (whichever comes first) ends that portion of the inning. Is that correct?
A pitcher can "pitch around" trouble in an inning depending on his pitch count and runners in scoring position, bases empty, etc. For instance....runners on 2nd and 3rd....current batter brings pitcher to 20 pitches.....they're trying to win the games, right? Is there incentive to challenge the hitter -- especially if the pitcher has thrown well.....say, surrending 0 runs into his 3rd inning? Surrendering a walk is better than giving up a hit in this situation. No one benefits except those watching the scoreboard. Cool

I understand the concept....this will avoid long innings. With the kids swinging wood, the 4-run rule will be invoked infrequently.

The first week of most HS fall programs, along with the MSL, take place during an NCAA baseball "quiet period". Although coaches can attend and watch games, they cannot make contact with recruits during the period 9/1 - 9/13, unless they occur on the school's campus. Good news for UTD coaches next Sunday. Cool
PD,
Correction...According to NCAA recruiting rules, the "Quiet Period" is defined as follows: "The college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents off the college's campus. The coach may not watch you play or visit your high school during this period. You and your parents may visit a college campus during this time. A coach may write or telephone you or your parents during this time".

This first week will be a good opportunity to work out the kinks and for UTD to get a good look at these athletes.

Ya'll are making my point...

On the first line (first set of games) it says
Location UT-Dallas Richardson

and then on the last (scheduled times) games it says
Location UT-Dallas.

My confusion was in the Richardson. I've had basketball camp at UTD for the past four years, I know where it is, AND that the mound is (was) HUGE! I thought maybe there was a mix up, or maybe the Richardson is meant to clarify.
