Hello All. My first post in the Georgia Forum.

There’s a very, very small chance we may relocate to Atlanta. We know very little about the city, the neighborhoods or the schools. Or the baseball programs Smile ! We are at the very beginning of our research process.

Here’s what I’ve learned from internet (these details could be wrong, please feel free to correct). I285 loops around Atlanta. Public schools inside the loop and public schools outside the loop. Looks like one public middle school generally feeds one public high school. Private high schools are also available. Traffic in the area is a bear.

We have a 4th grader and a 7th grader. If this all comes together, I imagine we’d try to land in a location that balances access to good schools against commute time.

I won’t ask you to divulge your exact school on a public forum, but I’m interested to hear any list of high schools that you locals would recommend. (Quality of baseball program is a factor, but not definitive)

Thank you for any and all suggestions

Welcome South brother...

Yes, I-285 circles Atlanta, but the huge metro area goes out for many miles and many counties. Would you be working in a certain area or county or just flying in and out for work?

Usually, public high schools have multiple feeder middle schools.

Atlanta Magazine puts out an annual issue on high schools, both public and private.

Most private schools are wrapping up their admissions process for next fall. The letters will go out the first week in April.

And yes, our traffic is terrible!

There are many, many good choices for schools, both public & private, and baseball. However, because of the large area of Metro Atlanta, where you work will have a major impact upon where you decide to reside, and then your school choices.

Once you know more, we can be more specific for you. F.Y.I., there are a gazillion Calif corporate trans-plants residing here quite happily! Traffic is no worse than South Cal!

Best of Luck in the process.

P.S. My wife is an Administrator in one of the larger, tenured Private Schools (PrimeJr. attended for 14 yrs. counting pre-k) and we had three go to what is acknowledged as the best academic high school in Georgia. So, perhaps we can share some insight.

Actually, if it is 'the' larger school, that won't be me (youngest son played with two of your players this past fall in travel ball...wonderful kids from wonderful families). I was just teasing about the 'best school' part because we feel we are the best school in academics.
The truth is I can name several excellent schools and then many just right below that bar as far as excellent private schools go in the ATL area. Lots of choices here.
Be very careful if you are looking at public schools and their assigned neighborhoods inside the perimeter. The ATL school board is right in the middle of the task of redrawing the lines. Many neighborhoods are in a upheavel right and trying to fight the redisticting.

And of course, we are still trying to recover from the testing scandel. I do think the new superintendent is top caliber.
