Former Ryan standout Austin Jackson was recognized by Baseball America this week for his sizzling start to the second half of the baseball season with the Tampa Yankees, the New York Yankees Class A Advanced affiliate in the Florida State League.
The center fielder was hitting .404 with a .449 on-base percentage in 89 at-bats with ampa heading into a game Tuesday afternoon. The 20-year-old Jackson was promoted from the Class A Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League at the SAL all-star break.
Baseball America listed Jackson No. 4 on its rundown of the hottest prospects in the minor leagues. The list is updated each Monday.
Jackson hit .260 in his second season in the minors as a member of the RiverDogs last year. He returned to Charleston for the opening of the 2007 season and was again hitting .260 at the time of his promotion. The move sparked Jackson, who hit five home runs in his first 22 games with Tampa.
