I feel a little silly asking this question but here goes...

My sons HS coach received an email which he forwarded to me...the email was from a person that claimed to be a freshman in HS and described himself as a huge baseball fan. He said that he wanted my sons autograph because he is one of the top prospects in the nation (not true). He did say that he saw my son listed in Prospects Plus and on PG's website (that part is true).

Anybody ever hear of anything like this? I would hate not to respond if this is indeed a young fan...you just cant be to careful in todays world. Thanks!

most of those are scams, usually older men posing as children trying to get autographs so they can use your signature if you by some chance get drafted high or go pro, or do somethin great in college, then they have your autograph and can mass produce it. Whatever you do, do not sign any blank pieces of paper, or note cards, they can be used to mass produce your autograph, my advisor and lots of other people have told me to watch out for people sending stuff in the mail or asking you to sign blank sheets of paper or index cards. I know some of the other top prospects in the nation, and they get these letters all the time just like me, none of us ever sign them because usually its someone trying to profit off of you if you do go pro. Heres how you can tell, because most likely a 12 year old kid isnt gonna have access to prospects plus, much less your address. Just a word to the wise, ignore the letter and dont worry about it.
Teacherman???

Yeah there aren't any people out there looking to take advantage of anyone Roll Eyes

Geez man...some of these young men have to protect themselves for the future...ID theft anyone?!?!

Don't sign anything blank ever!! That's good advice to anyone, not just future prospects.

That being said future stars....sign until your hand bleeds in person, especially for kids.
hey ley the kid have some fun, our guys (college & the Cape) are encouraged to sign everthing that is asked till the fans are done asking

if an identity can be stolen from this please let me know how as I have several "Bob Feller's" on paper and also Herb Score's, tho Herb's cards are a bit rough from being clipped to my bicycle spokes

ps - advise him to "sign in person" when possible & refrain from useing his ss# in the sig
