I am interested to hear about the indoor facilities here in the Phoenix area. Which ones are the best?...have good instructors? ...have good camps? Do any of them have a reputation for onething or another?
I'm new in the valley. (I live in the Southeast valley)
I'm interested to possibly hook on with one to continue giving hitting instructions.

We are new to the valley also....is that the ONLY indoor facility that caters to the "serious" player? A place where he can go and get a lot of swings in a short time?..
If so, might have to think of opening one...lol

Where do all the serious high school and college players go hit when it is 40 out...or 100 out?
We just came back from Az and we used a indoor batting cages on North Hayden Rd at Indian School Park in Scottsdale - I am not sure if it's open to the public the indoor gym next to the cages seemed to be open to the public- the place is run by city of Scottsdale - the minor league SF Giants use it in the spring training
Celtics6...I really appreciate the input.

We considered working with Mr. Wilson, as suggested, but my son had some "personal reasons" for not wanting to contact him. We did find a trainer who has done a terrific job with him over the last 6+ weeks. He has put on approx. 15 pounds and improved hs speed, while having a MLB player as his work out partner.

I saw the post regarding AZWOB...is that the only location in...say Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert??
We would just like to check places out and get a feel for where he might want to spend his free time...and as you know with a college player, there isn't much of that

In Scottsdale, there is Line Drives (formerly Frozen Ropes) near the Airpark. It's operated by Steve Ontiveros, the pitcher, and Brian Harper, the catcher for the Twins. Both are outstanding and you will find lots of very good and very serious players there. Up the road a bit (near the Coyotes practice facility) is another indoor facility run by Terry Kennedy, I think. It's called Baseball Arizona and also is oriented toward serious players.

A smaller facility with good instructors can be found at Big League Dugout, which carries very, very high end equipment. It is located on the northeast corner of Scottsdale and Shea.

By the way, to answer your question about what these guys do when it is 40 out or 100 out, well, most of them are outside hitting. I must say, I have NEVER (in 10 years) seen it 40 during the heart of the day. I have seen it 115, and they still have been out hitting.

Along those lines, a great alternative is Jim Lefebvre's operation at Scottsdale Community College. During the morning, Jim is working personally with a lot of Major Leaguers. In the afternoon, Jim along with Ken Phelps and Jim Kehoe are working with an array of guys that include Division I college players, high schoolers and Little Leaguers. Very good covered hitting tunnels, two big time fields (old Oakland A's minor league facility) with the chance for hundreds of swings an hour.

Check it out. Send me a note if you need contact info.
jemaz....thanks for all the good info, options are what I was interested in. I know this is the "mecca" of baseball, so I anted to see where the players were going. I know that it is only 40 at night...or on some cold windy Sundays, but wanted to ask that part anyway. We are from the midwest, so we have been outside hitting all the time...and even in the heat, he was outside...but I know, if you are in a covered area, you can get more work done

I will start checking these places out. He starts practice Saturday...so he won't need anything until the end of may (we hope).

As far as Jim Lefebvre's..I know he use to have a place off of..hmm..McKellips and Gilbert Road...is that still there also? Where my son was working out, he had the opportunity to meet him and enjoy some conversation about a facility in the Chicago area.

Again, thanks for the info
jemaz....
where are they outside hitting??
I went by Lefebvre's place and saw about a dozen people there. I have driven by a ton of fields and they are always empty. I have gone by the minor league facilties...most are empty and locked up...or have been. I would imagine that some of them are opening up with players getting ready for spring training.
Do they hit at the high schools?...after school?....with their coaches? I have been out here about 6 times, for a few weeks each time, the last few years (before relocating here)...and could never find a place to go hit...or even see people on fields hiting...taking grounders. Is it all organized through their high school coach?...their travel or club teams?
I am trying to get a feel for the ...ummm...terrain...the law of the land so to speak.
