Can some people fill me in on this school? I know it is a Christian school, which is a BIG plus! What level compititon is it and how good is the program in general? Thanks for yor responses.
Azusa Pacific is in SoCal but not right next to Yorba Linda. Azusa is a nice city on the base of Foothills. They compete in a pretty good conference and usually are competitive. You will play against top talent of the NAIA level. I do not believe they accept a lot of walk-ons though. What I mean is without first letting the HC know about your intentions.
APU, much like Biola (another acronym meaning Bible Institute Of Los Angeles) is a religious school, not just in terms of being affiliated with a church denomination (e.g., Pepperdine) but in terms of the career and professional goals of their students. Many of these students will be pursuing some sort of faith-based career.
I don't know how APU is in terms of admissions requirements but at Biola, the applicants are asked to provide a personal statement of faith. So I guess what I am trying to say is that this school really requires extensive consideration in terms of "fit" even more than most schools.
FBM, Thanks for the info. A kid that goes to my church plays on my team and he is the pastors son. His older brother goes there. Maybe I won't go there after all . And may I ask what your logo for your name is? Thanks again.
My avatar is the logo for the Lancaster JetHawks, California league (High A) affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks ... we also refer to them as "our team" and "us", and I am sure that most baseball parents understand that.
I don't know much of anything about these schools, but don't count them out just because they are centered around education for a faith-based career. That doesn't mean if you go there you have to be a missionary or anything like that. I go to a Christian school that prepares christians to work in the secular world, which in a brochure could be said as faith-based career. Believe it or not, there are non-Christians at my school. You get out of your education what you want. I don't know your beliefs, but don't count out these schools just because of that, especially if they give scholarships.
AK, yes Azusa is a Christian school. But I know many guys and girls that attend the school and are not die hard Christians. If you are just looking for a school to play at, there are quite a few in the state of CA. Problem is not all are great schools or great programs. Decide what is most important to you: education, playing time, future earnings, or just enjoying the college baseball life. Take a look at the (GSAC)Golden State Athletic Conference. There are a lot of schools there that you'll get a good education, but expensive. Look at the (CCAA) California Collegiate Athletic Association for cheaper DII schools, some are expensive. Good Luck and Best of wishes
CCKnights and Small Potatoes, I will keep this in mind when selecting a college. I am a rising JR so I still have some time. My main focus now is to raise my cumalative GPA.
