Since the new wild card format (2012) not one team in the wild card position on September 1 has made the playoffs. Chances are the streak ends this year. The D'backs are up six games on the third team in wild card contention.

I hope that something exciting and unexpected happens because this year has been, IMO awful.
About half of the teams are under 500, the talent, except for the same, is lacking. Teams having to call up those who probably would never make it up otherwise because starters are constantly on the DL.
Are we seeing the final results of a game lacking in steroids, HGH, etc?
Verlander to Astros. Good move.

Interesting thought on the drugs. I think the game is going through a transition with the shifts and how to combat them. Defenses have forced offense to decide - homeruns vs. ball in play. So increasingly the game has an all or nothing feel to it. It isn't particularly attractive to watch teams try to grind out walks while swinging for the fences. Watching a team strike out 13 times while hitting 3 home runs to score 6 runs is entertaining in short bursts with little sustained drama.
Somewhere Earl Weaver is having a smoke and laughing because he more than anyone invented this style - but it isn't always pretty or fun to watch.
Good observation but I see a lot of people losing jobs over the relatively poor appearances, shift or no shift.
And so happy that the yankees/red sox games are over, for now anyway, even though Judge is the fun guy to watch this year. Too bad no one comes out to watch Stanton.
