bad trades

The discussion on the Yankees prompted this idea. What is your favorite MLB team and their three worst trades in history?

Red Sox:

1) Selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees

2) Trading prospect Jeff Bagwell to Houston for reliever Larry Anderson

3) Trading Sparky Lyle to the Yankees for Danny Cater. Cater used to eat up the Sox in Fenway. He hit .237 for the Sox.

Sentimental honorable mention:

Bill Lee to Montreal for Stan Papi - The Sox were willing to get rid of Lee for a bag of balls at this point. They had enough of his off the field exploits and mouth.

"Lee for Papi, the deal was cr@ppy" - actually a song about the trade

Not exactly a favorite team, but gigantic blunder...

Cubs – Traded Lou Brock to arch rival Cardinals for Ernie Broglio. Brock became a Hall of Famer and Broglio won a handful of games and then hung it up.

Yankees:

Willie McGee to the St. Louis Cardinals for Bob Sykes

Larry Gura to the Kansas City Royals for Fran Healy

Jay Buhner, Rich Balabon and Troy Evers to the Seattle Mariners for Ken Phelps

My Twins haven't made many that i can remember but trading Matt Garza and Jason Bartlett for Delmon Young and Brendan Harris and a minor-leaguer has definitely worked out better for the Rays.

On the flip side, trading Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonser to the Twins for AJ Pierzynski has to be one of the worst in Giants history.

Not even close....

Orlando Cepeda to the Cards for Ray Sadecki....

And Willie Mays to the Mets for whomever...He deserved better....

As a Dodger fan, for me, it has to be the Dodgers sending Pedro Martinez to the Expos for Deshields. Delino struggled for the three years he spent in LA, while Pedro arguably (if retired?) had a Hall of Fame career.

Don't forget Before the 1977 season when the Red Sox sent Cecil Cooper to the Milwaukee Brewers and brought George Scott back to Boston.

The Cubs actually came out ahead on one.

In 1982, Ivan DeJesus was traded to the Phillies for Larry Bowa and Ryne Sandberg.

The one that I remember most was the trade about 10 years ago that brought Mo Vaughn - Roberto "Spitman" Alomar and Jeremy Burnitz to the NY Mets.

It destroyed the organization for about 5 years.

Steve Phillips was the architect behind this mess.

It doesnt matter who - or what - they traded for these 3. They were that bad.
