I'm going to get a subscription to BA. Is it accurate to say everything on the website is in the magazine, but there are items on the website not in the magazine? If I'm right what would I be missing if I only got the paper edition?

What about Collegiate Baseball? Any opinions?

The blog and occasional supplemental info is only published online. The online version appears to be updated daily.

Collegiate Baseball is interesting and been around a longtime. The BA writing is far more professional and polished, however Collegiate Baseball has a lot more techinque and strategy articles written by coaches, some of which I find interesting. They will publish articles on competing techniques/strategies side by side along with stuff about D1....JC colleges and a page or two for high schools.

If you are a coach CB is a good newspaper, if you are just interested reading about pro prospects BA is a good newspaper.

We get both publications, Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball. The latter, as its name would imply, has much more about college baseball than Baseball America. BA has an "On Campus" section, which can be as little as a couple pages to as many as 7-8 pages. BA's college coverage is almost exclusively the major D-I's. CB also covers D II and D III, perhaps not as much as D I but at least it know they exist.

As someone already pointed out, more instructional articles in CB, but BA has more polished writing.

IMHO, they both provide good information at a pretty cheap price.
I just read in this month’s Baseball America that Alan Matthews has resigned from BA to accept a scouting position with the Rockies.

I don't know who will be taking Mr. Matthews place to cover HS baseball however he seemed to be one of the few left at BA that gave HS any attention to begin with. When Allan Simpson left BA for PG Crosschecker HS coverage had already started to slip (IMO), it will be interesting to see what happens next.

You will not find a more classy and professional guy than Alan Matthews. He is from my home town Durham NC and I am proud to call him my friend. He did a great job while at BA but he always wanted to be a full time scout. Hopefully they will find a good replacement and someone that will cover hs baseball with the same vigor and entusiasm that Alann did. It was not uncommon to see Alan at hs games just as a fan during the season around our area. Best of luck to him in his new job. The Rockies gain is BA's loss thats for sure.
