IMG also making big news this week... They are starting a football program.

It's pretty controversial. Going to lead to a lot of recruiting issues when they start giving scholarships to the stud players. There was an article I was reading the other day that talked about if they were successful with the program you're gonna start seeing a lot of these football schools pop-up.

Money talks...

With that said.... the 50k+ isn't going to guarantee playing time for your kid. So that's a lot of money to ride the bench in HS!!

THey will take your money and help your kid improve. Talent is not required. HBO Sports did a story on them a few years ago interviewing a golfer and his parents. They spent $60K per year trying to get him a golf scholly. Golf is nearly a non-scholly sport with 4 per team max. The kid just wasn't good enough.
My son started playing travel ball at 12. He is now 17. Between team fees, gas, hotels, airfare, showcases, restaurants so on so on...... I've already spent more than a reasonable scholarship at a public DI would be worth. I hear constantly go to east Cobb, Jupiter find a good travel team, do PG event, get good private instruction. I wonder how many people here have come out financially ahead. I know it's not all about the money, if it were none of us would do it. Money buys opportunities, not success necessarily but opportunities

...boy is that the truth.

I keep harping about this but there is tons more academic money available than athletic. In my son's case he had the choice of ~30% at some good but not great, academic institutions with a yearly renegotiated athletic scholly, (and these teams were athletically mediocre and would virtually never make the playoffs) vs a 4 year guaranteed ~50% at one of the top schools in the country that is traditionally nationally ranked, always has a winning record, and always gets in the regionals. All because of academics.
Angie Rouse,

There is a poster on this site who was going to start a PG (post-graduate) Baseball Academy on the west coast this year. I'm not sure where he is on that business plan. I haven't talked to him a few months, and he hasn't replied to this post. So, please send me a PM with what you are looking for, and I'll try to track him down.

I couldn't agree more. For my son academics and a small school were high on his list. The D1's that fell in this profile either weren't interested or offered a walk-on opportunity in the fall. Several D#'s were interested and offered very good academic scholly's that are good for 4 years as long as he meets the GPA requirements. He is at a school he really loves and is challenged academically. He was given the chance to compete for a starting spot in the fall and became a league starter and pitched against some very good teams. Overall he is really enjoying the experience.

They are great for tennis, and have produced some of the worlds best players back when it was the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. IMG came along and bought him out, and decided to expand into other sports.
My son was working out with a kid who's dad had a ton of money and sent his son there for a summer. The kids pitching coach said they overdid the weight training, and it was not specific for pitchers, so he got bulky in the wrong areas. For that reason alone I'd be wary of the place without further vetting.
