Anyone else have any comments on this? Young son has received invitation to Puma Tryouts sponsred by Baseball Factory. Is this something we should check into or another way to suck funds from your baseball budget?
Receleved the BATS Program Flyer as well in the am of the Puma tryouts. It seems like these are tied together in someway. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
they do take your funds as long as you will give it! if you want your son to be seen, go to college camps at the colleges he is interested in!!!! play select on a good team that travels to colleges to play!!!!
My son plays on prominent summer baseball team with some championship history. He also plays on one of the better high school teams in the metroplex. He has also been through the fall showcases, etc.....so, there's some background for my initial question, which was
Is a PUMA tryout invitation a common thing based on the Baseball Factory & Team One efforts to run a business and the sponsorship of the tryout? Is there a benefit to attend PUMA tryout? Is it truly invitation specific or does every player that has some baseball experience get one of these invitations.
I will say this my son just came back from Tucson after participating in the event and while there was a good number of pro scouts there and we felt it was an honor for him to be selected, we were left wondering was it a scam. After some discussion between he and I we came to the conclusion that he probably got some exposure that he wouldn't normally get. If your son is an underclassmen I would recommend this but if he is a senior then he won't garner any more exposure from this that he hasn't already received. Don't lose sight of the fact that they are in this for the money. If you go to the Baseball Factory website you will notice that in order to see the individual write ups you have to be a subscriber to Team One, which in my opinion shows that it is more about the money then it is for the exposure of quality players.
ditto icksnay on Baseball Factory...we had signed up but couldn't make it..got a partial refund but I had to threaten to turn them in to get the money...finally got it 3 months later
Outsider 2007 I will tell you what I experienced, first off yes it is only 40 to try out but then they rope you into their b.a.t.s program which is another $400 and then if you make the Puma team that event is another $700. Was the initial contact selective? Hard to say I know my son was the only one who got invited from his high school team and there was definitely quality players there but I am in agreement with the rest of the reply's you would be better off investing your money in select showcase events at colleges or doing summer camps at colleges you might be interested in.
