Having seen all three play in district last year, I would go with Alves.

I thought he was an all-around athlete who could hit, pitch and play defense. He also seemed to be a leader on the team both times we played them. After seeing some of his stats he put up in football at Boyd, it only confirms what kind of athlete this young man is.

Lipka and Lee are both outstanding as well, but if I'm building a team from scratch, I want to start with Alves.
You all have been so convincing -- and Superman is still running around in shorts. We might as well skip the games between the Plano teams, eh? <-- that takes the Wildcats 4 games closer to the district title on the way to Roundrock.

Maybe West will have something to say about it though -- I hear there will be a few roster updates over there soon. As for the Panthers, our guys will battle Allen and LH and Berkner and Richardson for the last playoff spot.

Cool

They are all great athletes and all have a terrific upside.

Dano - based on your posts here and on hornfan.com...I nominate you as President of the Zach Lee fan club. Wink

disclaimer - Zach Lee is an excellent player and this post does not add to or detract from his playing ability. Big Grin

OP,

Can you explain the perfect game thing to me. It seems to me that kids get rated by PG only if the participate in their events. Meaning they really dont know the best players, only the kids/ parents that throw money at them.. Is that a correct assesment on my part?

Someone help me understand why I should buy into PG'S rankings..

As for the Lee and Lipka kid.. They are very good players and deserve to be ranked that high. I think Lipka may be one of the best around.

Alves, he's to little to be taken serious. He should be a jockey or something.

Johnnie,

PG rates players based on what they have seen personally and what scouts they trust tell them about a player. I don't think for one minute that they only rate a kid because they've been to one of their events. As a matter of fact, I know for sure that's not the case. I know for a fact that many, many kids they rank have never been to a PG event. A great example right now is Nico Taylor. He's listed in the top 500 in the country and has never been to any PG event, whether it be showcase or tournament. PG does an incredible job at what they do. They get blasted all the time about how much money it costs to do their events, but I can bet they aren't running to the bank with loads of extra money. It cost's a lot of money to do what they do. I think a lot of us get carried away with the entire ranking thing to be honest, me included for sure, but you can compare their rankings at the end of the day to the actual draft each year and they're not far off on most of what they project. I don't know if I answered your question or not. Maybe PGStaff will show up and give us a lesson. I know there are many posts throughout this site on this subject. Do a search and you can find a ton of info about this very thing.

I'm done!
OP,
I think MHS is #1, I think due to pitching depth Boyd is #2 and I believe Frisco will finish 3rd....mainly due to coaching and a better shot at finding a #2 & #3 pitcher. Gatewood may end up being a great coach (I doubt it, but it could happen) but at this time, I like Cook's knowledge of the district and more recent high school experience. JMHO

PD,
Don't just disagree, elaborate, after all you did start this mess. Wink
OP,
I think Milam will win games for Boyd, He may be one of the best coaches in the state. I think Price is just a guy, won't win or lose games for MHS. I think Gatewood will lose more than he will win for North. If you can't win with that pitching combo last year, then you have issues. I believe Milam will take us further than anyone knows.

Bringit,

Why don't we win more than we lose before we say that Boyd is the next state champ.

I agree that Milam just might be one of the best coaches in the state. What he did at North in a VERY short period was phenomenal.
Sandy,
I see how my comment could come across as negative, but really I meant Price seems to let his guys play the game, not over coaching, good or bad. With good players Price will be successful, with not so good players he might not "pull out" wins with a lot of strategy. Unlike his counterpart at North, who over coached several games last year, including but not limited to MHS's big comeback game last year.

OP,
Last year is just that...last year. Razz
PS Didn't Boyd beat North last year?
