+1 here.  Sounds like he is/has gaining a tremendous amount of maturity...a very good sign.  An excellent example of what the game can do for a young man....and what a young man can take away from it.

He will be better for the experience and his outlook on it.  You should be proud of him.... how he finished and what he pulled from it will serve him well.   

Nice post.  I think nearly all of us have 'been there' with our sons and its times like this that they have even taught me a little.

Yes Chef this game will humble you at any moment.  My 2015 son's last outing was exactly as you describe except he was taken out of the game.  He is gonna get his chance at redemption tonight as he is starting final region game to determine if we make the playoffs.  I generally am pretty calm, but I will be wound tight up until game time today.  Even though I fully expect him to come back out with a strong outing, you just never know. I think that is the reason I love this game, along with golf, so much because it tests your abilities, emotions, heart, gut, desire and mental fortitude.  The mental aspect may be the greatest test of all.

Bravo!  Thanks for sharing the ups & downs that your son dealt with last night.  It sounds as though he bowed his neck and fought through it.  Think Winston Churchill said, "If you are going through hell, just keep going!"

A boxer decided to fight one more time before retiring so he could buy a house for his new wife and he. He was matched against a regional champion on the rise. He was knocked down thirteen times before the fight was stopped. When asked about it afterwards he said, "I prefer to look at it as I got up thirteen times."

If you have not been humbled by the game either as a player or a parent just stick around for awhile. Your time is coming. Just like life.

Boy no kidding.  My son and I were humbled last night.  He is a 10u and had been a dominant rec pitcher this season til last night.  He had not thrown a ball behind a hitter til he did it several times last night.  I laugh now - but he was upset about it.  Last night humbled him quite a bit.  Better to start learning now than later.

Alanj, Yeah I think my son gets humbled at least once a year. Sometimes more than that for sure. My Sr 18year old son has learned to handle it but at 10U, Ugh! Quite honestly i needed to learn to relax when he was that age too
