Hello to all. My name is Katey and I am a mechanical engineering student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. My project team is in the process of designing a baseball pitch-back that will require no gas or electric power source. We are trying to obtain feedback on our design requirements and the marketability of our product. Please take a moment and complete our very short survey at the following link: http://www.surveyshare.com/survey/take/?sid=42993 Thanks a lot!

Hello KateyMe. Welcome. All due respect but there are products on the market right now that do the job. What we need, and I don't seem to be able to, is to see this pitch back and read a full description of it. Pitch backs are typically used by a much younger crowd say between 7-13 yrs old. Let us know where or how we may see this and read more about it.
Hmm. Not sure. I suppose when I think of a pitch-back it's the old type you buy at a hardware store. Coachric is right, those will not work for older players.

But think out of the box. What if one built a NEW TYPE of pitch-back, where the ball was somehow returned to the pitcher in a more controlled manner much like in a bowling alley. I don't know if it's possible..you're the mechanical engineering student..but it would be interesting.

It would be even more interesting if one could add in some electrical engineering, say, a laser matrix giving statistics on location in the strike zone, or movement, where a pitcher could track improvement.
Katey,

This is meant as helpful feedback, not criticism. The design specifications listed on your survey probably do not fit the players and parents who visit our site - specifically the MAX pitched speed of 50 mph. So you may not get any interested survey takers, or if you do, I would guess most or all would say they would not be interested in the product. A max pitching speed of 50 mph would fit a much younger group than most of our members who would be in the range of 60+ mph (pre-high school) to about 90 mph (college upper end). Good luck though, it's great that your project team is interested in baseball!
