Happy New Year All! I need some creative juices to help me with about 12 centerpieces for a baseball banquet. Our summer traveling team is having a money making dinner and auction the end of February and I am in charge of the centerpieces. In past they have had l squares of astro turf with baseball gloves in the center holding a ball with balloons floating above them. Any other ideas? Thanks!!

Okay....this question made me laugh out loud. That is because about a year ago we were having a similar discussion, and after considerable brainstorming that evolved into the ridiculous, someone mentioned an idea for the buffet table of serving the various "dips" out of athletic cups (instead of bowls)! Clean ones of course! Big Grin Obviously any further ideas went downhill from there (I can't even mention some of them here)! Needless to say the idea never got out of the "discussion" phase! thumb

I won't even "touch" that idea.

My favorite centerpiece: batting helmets atop a "homeplate" shaped base, filled with bags of sunflower seeds (are they as popular elsewhere as on the Left Coast?), tho you could also use peanuts. The holes in the sides of the helmets were used to anchor helium-filled balloons ... in the school colors, plus one mylar balloon that said "Grand Slam" on one side (that was the name of the dinner so the pre-printed balloons were a given) and the table # on the other side (we had pre-assigned seating). The centerpiece was surrounded by large (opague) plastic tumblers ... we used ones with "Coca Cola" written on them ... filled with sand (to weight them down) and topped with a disk of styrofoam that had been spray-painted to look like soda. I even had "carbonation bubbles" made of clear plastic beads which had been pressed into the styrofoam (after the paint dried, of course). There was a straw extending from the "soda" which we used to display pennant-shaped "place cards" with the names of the table-mates ... If I remember correctly, we had tables for 8 or 10 and had 4 or 5 tumblers, each bearing the name(s) of the individuals at the table.

It looked festive, tho not fancy, and since I came up with it ... I thought it looked great ... 14
