We have 2 drills that we do that help our baserunning. In addition to these 2 drills we do base stealing live off of pitchers at the end of practice. We use a pitcher that needs a bull pen.

3 Station Drill
Station 1: Home plate
Coach will fake pitch and runner will visually execute a hit and run. 3 steps out of the box coach will give players numbers to make sure they are looking in. Players are running a hard 90, breaking down. They then will jog to 2nd base.

Station 2: 1st base
Runners will leave as part of the hit and run on the fake pitch. On the 3rd step the runner will give the player a read that will indicate ground ball, line drive, or fly ball. Anything that is a ground ball or line drive the runner is going 1st to 3rd. They then jog to Home Plate.

Station 3: 2nd base
Runners will picture a line drive and they will score. They then will jog to 1st base.

Balls in the Dirt
Runners at all bases with a coach throwing balls to a live catcher. All bases are being run independently of each other. Runners take their normal leads and secondaries and are reading the catcher.

Runners at 1st: When they see the catcher's knees go they go to 2nd base

Runners at 2nd & 3rd: When they see the catcher's knees go they will take 2 hard steps and read the ball before they advance.
