My son and I were wondering how to measure his bat speed. He is 16 and a Junior in Hopkins,mn. We used an older radar gun sold at Sports Authority the was about $120. Hitting off a tee in a batting cage reduces some of the variables like pitching speed and wind. I clocked him at 85mph but not very accurate when the ball isn't hit directly toward the gun(I was outside the cage for obvious reasons). Last summer he could hit a ball off the "skilz" brush tee (minimal resistance, the ball floats on brushes) over a fence at 329' with his Dimarini CF5. Looking at Jeager Sports on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w3xwYIx17s it looks like 97mph translates into about 360ft. I believe one could draw a comparison in distance to bat speed hitting off a tee.
