IMHO, do not take this generic advice.........Bat length and its subsequent weight are not something you should just guess at. A 33/30 is well used in HS, but I do not think it's worth wasting your money just because someone thinks its perfect for a average HS player.

You know your son. The right fit depends on his height, weight, strength and swing type. There is a good test to determine proper length and weight for his body strength. Have him grip the bat in his strong hand. One hand at the bottom of the grip. Have him hold it out straight from his body. Kind of like Thome does. Have him hold it for 30 seconds.... If its too heavy or long, he will not be able to hold it still or level. Repeat at a lower weight or length until he can hold it still. You will find it is pretty easy to tell if he can handle it.

I cant tell you how many young HS players come to the plate using too big a bat. It may only seem like an inch or an ounce, but if its too big it effects the swing enormously. Plus strictly from a financial aspect, you cant afford to waste $199-$299 on what an average HS baseball player uses.
32/29 by far is the better choice. Unless u are a monster with tremendous bat speed and strength there is no need for a 33". I have a 6'3" 220 lb. linebacker who benches 280 still uses my Easton ConneXion 32/29. There is a noticable difference in "just 1 ounce" and there is no need to have an extra inch, just scoot up to the plate.
The sweet spot is larger on a longer bat....

Gennerally, most of the high end bats lyk the Air Warrior or Liquidmetal2, are very well blanced(especially precision balanced rawlings bats). With bats like these, you should go up anohter in because it will give about the same bat speed as a cheaper bat in a smaller size.

With a larger sweet spot, more plate coverage, equal bats speed(maybe a little less), to me its a no brainer. I also like what Piia_ump said too.
im a senior this year and i have many college coach connections and plan on playing ball in college next year and every college coach i have talked to says "with very few exceptions, i won't let a player on my college team use anything less than a 33-30, unless they are a speedy lead off or a MONSTER that crouds the plate (barry bonds type) its good to start out high school with a 32 but if he gets serious about playing ball...the 33 is the only way to go
there is no reason not to go with a 33/30 if u can swing it. im only a 170 lb guy but i use a 33/30. how big u are really doesnt dictate how strong you are the plate, i know guys that are twice my size but have half the bat speed. by the way bench press means jack in baseball, whats your P clean and squat is what you should be asking yourself.
I have been playing since i was 4 years old and the weight/length all depend on how quick your hands are i have seen guys 5'7 take balls out and bat 400 in select using 33/30. but then again i have also seen guys 6'4 220 who cant touch a guy throwing 85 up with a 33/30 who have to go down to 32/29. i currently use a 33/30 and i am 5'11 175 and right now half way through our season i'm hitting 450 with 4 hr. best advice use some of your team mates bats and see how you do using a bigger or smaller bats.
