I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but since I am relatively new I thought I would throw it out there. What is the deal with the bats, every bat my son comes and tells me he has interest in is in the $400.00 range. Are these bats really that much better? Is it performance, durability? What is the difference between a $200.00 bat and a $400.00 bat? I definitely am not too excited about dropping 4 bills on a baseball bat. Any info is greatly appreciated....

My son's EXO lasted two seasons. It's never used for BP. He swings wood in BP. He bought at 07 when the 08's came out for $230. This year he bought an 08 for $290. When the supplier realized he was out of 08's after taking the order he shipped a new 09. My son plays about 100 games a season. About 60 are metal bat.

Bats purchased on Ebay and other on line stores do come with a manufacturers warranty if the entity you buy it from is an authorized manufacturer dealer.
If you buy from an individual you are correct, but there are many stores selling on Ebay. I buy all my son's bats on Ebay and have sent a few back with replacement. I always ask that question before bidding.

Also you need to ask for a legit receipt, not a Paypal receipt.

Technology does come into play with higher end bats. If composite bats are "rolled" they are very "hot" with reduced durability but also flirts with the integrity of the game aspect. Most of the aluminum alloys from $200 up are pretty similar in "pop", just need to find out if it's end-loaded and if your player likes one-piece, two-piece or three-piece bats.

The authorized dealers on e-bay are usually no cheaper than internet stores for the new model bats. In fact, the shipping sometimes brings the total to more than buying it direct from internet stores that don't charge shipping for orders over $100.

For instance, the newest Easton Stealth seems to be the bat of choice around here. The authorized dealers seem to have a set minimum price to sell these at, or they aren't authorized dealers. Maybe this isn't true for all manufacturers, but I looked hard at e-bay at the time I was purchasing for my son.

I do think the new $400 bats can make the difference between the warning track and a home run.
