runners on first and second no outs. batter flys out to center field. batter after ball is caught continues to run the bases touching first and then touching second. He is running fast not just jogging. this confuses my second baseman. while the runner that should be on second is returning to the bag my center fielder throws the ball to my second baseman. my second basemen see the batted out running to second and doesnt know wether to tag him out or tag the original runner at second. umpires say everyone but the batted out is safe, no interference no calls what so ever. Just seems to me there has to be some kind of violation.

There is nothing illegal. For OBR, it's Rule 7.09(e) Comment: "If the batter or a runner continues to advance after he has been put out, he shall not by that act alone be considered as confusing, hindering or impeding the fielders." FED doesn't have a similar comment, but there is nothing in interference that allows a penalty here.

Jcriffle,

I'm trying to figure out what happened.  Could you offer more detail?

There could be more here than the benign action described in the note offered by Matt. Granted, continuing to run doesn't by itself constitute hindering or confusing the defense, but that doesn't mean that continuing to run is always ok.

There were runners on first and second, but he kept running to second after the ball was caught? Does that mean the batter-runner passed the runner who had been on first and then continued to run to second base where the defense was attempting to make a play on the runner who had been on second? What were the runners doing? Tagging, playing it half way, hustling back to avoid being doubled up? What play was being attempted and what was the batter-runner's affect on it?

If his continued running hindered or impeded a play being made on someone else, it could be interference. And if he passed a runner to run to a base where a play was being made, you could have something.

Please give more info.
