Batting gloves

There is no rule against it.....

In reviewing the rules, the only remotely applicable thing I can come up with is:

1-5-Article 9...

any player equipment judged by the umpire to be unreasonably dangerous is illegal...

I think a batting glove on a throwing hand is probably not the smartest thing, but not unreasonably dangerous...

Hmmm. PIAA-ump. Haven't you seen this in March/early April games? In PA I've seen it and have talked to the coaches about it but have not said "take it off" for the same reason. I don't know of any official rule other than that of the pitcher.

absolutely I/we have....I have seen it and have never said a word about it....

In our spring filled flurry fests, I have seen some players go to some extreme efforts to stay warm....

Then they go into the dugouts and huddle around the propane heaters while we flap in the breeze...

I think the original poster is from South Carolina, so staying warm probably was not the motivation for the player wearing the glove, yet trying to find some rule to stretch to cover it smacks of OOO to me...

In SC? My parents live there. Your only COLD season is January and that's like our March timeframe here in PA. I've had puddles of water by the car when the game starts and at the end the water is frozen.

I used to ref Ice Hockey and still use the undergarments from it for baseball here in PA at the start of the season. PIAA-UMP is in the western part of the state. His season doesn't warm up until mid-April I'm sure. I don't know how the Northern states get their seasons started so early. **** baseball is not a cold Wx sport.
