So... those of you who were there today... what did you think?? Our son was happy, but of course wished he could have had more opportunities to show his skills... so many kids! He is a catcher (obviously) and only had a few chances to show a good pop time and little chance to block pitches in dirt, etc. But, all in all, we were glad he went. The field is beautiful and the event seemed well organized... We will see if his catching skills warrent more looks by a college or if it was just a good workout! Either way, he's always happy to spend a day on a baseball field! (Sue, were you there???)

I think the event was a little less organized then it was last year. It seemed alot of the timed components were rushed, maybe fear of the impending storm that never came had it's impact.
Having been there both years it seemed last year had more coaches, but they also had more "high profile" players with name notariety. That being said, I was pretty impressed with the catchers. I thought they had much better arms overall than last year.
Tough to gage much on five swings, but that is the nature of the beast.
My son was very pleased with his throws, not so happy with his hitting.

My thoughts are anything that gets someone thinking about a kid is a good event. It is also good for a player to compare their skills to those of their peers. Good and bad comparisons can be of great help in developing a player.

Whatever you do, don't wait to hear. Take a proactive approach and ask specific coaches for their feedback.

Where you AM or PM tryout?

The preliminary player review etc. was a complete shame -- for most - it was a total waste of time and money -- do not recommend it to perspective high school players next year. I would recommend focusing on Perfect Game and Blue Gray --- unless you want to experience sitting in the Maryland baseball stands for $100 bucks and wasting an afternoon.
Just having gone the recruiting process I will say one thing. Of all the Showcases that our Son did only one was mentioned many times over. That was Battle of the Ship. I would say 7 out 10 Coaches mentioned having seen our Son there. It is also the first place that the School he signed with saw him. Then Fall ball sealed the deal.

I believe this year it was $90 but it might of been $100. My feeling is it just takes being seen at the right time by the right Coach. I don't think ANY Showcase can guarantee that. It really is luck in some cases. I feel with the cost of Showcases out there it may be good way for kid to be seen without spending alot of money. JMHO.
How many kids tryout for the all-star team and how many actually make it? Specifically pitchers... their flyer indicates the tryout is only 2 hours and from there they choose who plays in the all-star game. is it a fair selection process?

Obviously the showcase options are overwhelming, so I'm trying to figure out the best course of action.

Thanks for any input!
