So, I just tried a new selection of BBCOR bats of which I will need to purchase several for my HS baseball team this year, and if their goal was to reduce "pop" then bravo. I had hit with a couple a while back and noticed a difference, but I hit for about an hour and a half today and the difference is immense...or perhaps I am a pitcher now! (just kidding pitching guys)

I will say that this is in no way a complaint. Strategy will find it's way back into the game which I like quite a bit, but the excitement of the long ball will be few and far between.

This is a good change, but I believe will take some getting used to.

P.S. I am changing this year because all of the bats I had last year on not on the approved list for this year. We will be a slight disadvantage this year, but the boys will get to learn some baseball as well.
You just got lesson number one: don't think; it can only hurt the ball club. -- Crash Davis

I like it! Small ball is coming back!!!

They are not, but many of the BESR bats are not "legal" for this year. For example, we have used Voodoos and Nike Aero Fuse in the past and both are illegal for the 2011 season.

I have seen it listed so I called the UIL and our umpire association and confirmed that these bats are not legal.

Instead of paying for new BESR bats for 2011 and then buying all new bats for 2012 is not finacially feasible for our district so I will just bite the bullet this year and become a dominant bunting team...lol

Hey Coach, I was curious who you spoke with about the Voodoo. I know the Vexxum had to be certified BESR-ABI, but I have been assured the Voodoo is not part of the BESR-ABI certification, since it is not a composite barrel bat.

Thanks, GED10DaD

Man I wish we could get some clarification bats are to expensive to be disorganized, here is my story my son had a nike composite sent it back to nike and they said they would send a bat that was legal for 2011 season. Read the reviews about bats and it not on the nfhs list called nike and told them that. They swear the bat they are sending me is legal for nfhs and high school play who do i believe? The amount of money parents spend on bats is crazy and now this. If someone can educate me or us feel free

This is exactly why I am purchasing the BBCOR bats now. I am afraid that the list of "legal" BESR bats will change depending on the umpires that we get for any given game. This way I know I am covered.
The list above was what the UIL said is the list of approved bats for this year. He claimed that more may be added by time the season begins, but that is the list the officials will go by.

You do hear different things from different people which adds to the confusion.

I am not saying don't try to use last years bats, I am just stating that my team will make the change this year due to massive confusion on the subject.

I consulted with my umpiring chapter and he assured me the list was correct.
Thanks Coach, you are 100% correct, those composite bats are legal, as they passed the BESR-ABI cerification process. The Voodoo is NOT composite, that is why it's not on the list. As long as the BESR bat has a metal barrel or is a composite bat on this list, is is legal for HS 2011 play.

Thanks GED10DaD

GED, you are correct. I misunderstood my end of the argument (lol). I did ask specifically about those two bats (Voodoo & Aero Fuse) and was given a "no go". I will attempt again tomorrow with our chapter and see if I can get a definitive answer.

TX-Ump...another list? Wink

This one seems to be exactly what everyone is looking for though.

Thanks.

You are right, this is a very confusing topic. I like the UMass list, as it is the most comprehensive and up-to-date. We have the UMass list, broken down by manufacture and model, posted in both dugouts and in our new hitting facility.

I think this will be a heavily discussed topic this week in Waco, no doubt.

Have a great spring! GED10DaD
Just to clarify, we are talking about High School play, not collegiate - OK.

Which list?? UMass or NFHS/UIL list? The NFHS list only shows the legal BESR-ABI Certified COMPOSITE barrel bats, for 2010-11. Since the EXO is not a composite, it's not on the NFHS list.

Yes, all METAL barrel BESR Certified Louisville Slugger EXOGrids are good, for HS play in 2011. It WILL NOT be legal January 1, 2012 and beyond. Short of a US Federal injunction or the apocalypse, whichever comes first... Big Grin Seriousley, never say never, but as of now, NO BESR certified bats will be legal after January 1, 2012.

The EXO, is legal, per the UMass list.

I hope that helps.... GED10DaD

I think one aspect of confusion, for the UMass list... This is for collegiate bat standards and certification, as it pertains to the NCAA. As far as High School, we are one full calendar year behind, so use the NCAA 2010 Season drop down for our HS bat standards and certification.

Here is how I checked GUNs Voodoo....

1. Go to the UMass website:
UMass Bat Tables

2. Pick:
a. League = 2010 NCAA Season
b. Manufacturer = Demarini
c. Model = VDB11
d. Lengths = 29-35, or ALL (I use ALL)

The search shows this:

Barrel Classification Legend:
A - Hollow Aluminum Alloy
B - Solid Wood, Solid Wood Laminate, or Solid Bamboo Laminate
C - Hollow Fiber Composite
D - Other [Not A, B, or C] (e.g. Multiple Materials)

Certification No. Manufacturer Model Length Barrel Class BESRCert BBCORCert ABI
NCAA-04-0121 DeMarini DXVDO 3033-6 & VDB9 & VDB10 & VDB11 33 A BESR
NCAA-05-0006-2 DeMarini DXVDO 3134-6 & VDB9 & VDB10 & VDB11 34 A BESR
NCAA-05-0030 DeMarini DXVDB 2932-6 & VDB9 & VDB10 & VDB11 32 A BESR
NCAA-05-0107 DeMarini DXVDB 2831-6 & VDB9 & VDB10 & VDB11 31 A BESR
NCAA-07-0074 DeMarini DXVDB 3235-8 & VDB9 & VDB10 & VDB11 35 A BESR

So, this table tells me GUNs 2011 Demarini Voodoo Black Model VDB11 31/34 is legal for High School play. But I still believe we will have games where legal bats are not allowed AND illegal bats are allowed because of interpretations on the field by the umpires.

Hopefully, since we have this information available in each dugout, we can help resolve any certification issues on the field, at game time if we need to.

I just got back from the ABCA show in Nashville last night and this was the talk of the show. This year they had 4800 coaches attend and I think 3700 of them were in the seminar on the new BBCORE rules and bat regulation.

It looks good for the wood guys. Also for the first time I counted 24 wood bat companies on display. Seems everyone is jumping in the business.
Coaches and Players, remember for this baseball season any composite bat must be listed on the National Federation website or meet the BBCOR standards for 2012. If the bat is not on the list or does not have the BBCOR stamp the bat will not be allowed in the game. Here is the link for legal bats: Approved BESR-ABI Composite Baseball Bats (as of January 19, 2011)

If the player comes to the plate with it they will be out immediately for having an illegal bat.

Tychco, don't know if I've every made bad third strike call. I mean if the score is 19 - 0 is any 3rd strike a bad one

If you purchase one this year you can use it.
